Engage young minds during school breaks.
The Sitka Sound Science Center is excited to offer a unique selection of camps for students, families, and adults in our community!
The theme for Summer Camps 2026 is Between the Lines. Campers will participate in STEAM challenges, team-building, and outdoor excursions. For us, the shift from STEM to STEAM includes art and the aquarium. Whether you see yourself as a scientist, mathematician, artist, or outdoor enthusiast, these camps are for you! Science Center programs are high energy, science-centered, and tons of fun!
Octopus, Compass, Salmon, and Humpback level members will receive a 25% discount at checkout.
Scholarships are available for families who require financial assistance. Please contact Brooke Rivera at brivera@sitkascience.org to inquire about available scholarships.

What are the skills expected at the camps?
expand_morePre-K: Campers must be potty trained. A typical excursion will be to the Sitka National Historic Park, Sage Beach, and to the playground. We will practice forming teams, creative group play, waiting turns, and being kind to one another.
Grades 1 – 3: Campers should be able to move independently over uneven ground on relatively flat terrain. A typical excursion might take us to Sitka National Historic Park, around the loop trail there, and back to the Science Center. Campers should feel comfortable with group skills such as listening, waiting their turn, and practicing kindness toward others. Science content is integrated into stories, explorations, games, and projects. Activity work time is restricted to ~30 minute blocks.
Grades 4 – 6: Campers will be expected to sustain 30-45 minutes of play or movement. They will practice listening to their peers’ ideas, planning as a team, and playing cooperative and competitive games. Science content is integrated into direct instruction, experimentation, and discovery activities. Campers will problem-solve challenges and work on projects for 45–60 minutes at a time.
Grades 7 – 12: Campers in grades 7–12 should be able to sustain focus for hour-long field trips, feel comfortable swimming for short stretches in the ocean, and feel excited about time outside and stretches of physical activity. They will be expected to plan cooperatively and delegate tasks, support their peers, and be independently motivated. These campers will learn science content through direct instruction, individual experimentation and observation, group discussion, and Q&A with experts. Skills in these camps require maturity and compliance with safety instructions. Work blocks will be 60–90 minutes, and in some cases may extend for several hours.
Adults: Participants in adult snorkeling should be prepared to snorkel in cold water for about an hour at a time. All snorkel equipment- wetsuits, booties, gloves, masks, fins, hoods, and snorkels- is provided. Please come wearing your bathing suit or clothing that you are comfortable getting wet that will fit under a wet suit. Participants also need to bring a towel and water bottle.
